Dear Explorers!
As you remember, when we first introduced Guild Expeditions, we promised that we will also develop a peaceful way of solving encounters in the jungle. Until now, the 'Negotiate' option when clicking an encounter has been padlocked, but today, we proudly present you - the Negotiation Game!
From now on, instead of battling your way through through the unknown territory to eradicate evil invaders, you will also be able to trade with locals using your resources. If you succeed, they will let you through and you will solve your encounter with no fight whatsoever! This will not be a simple pay&go solution that you know from the single player campaign map. Instead, we will entertain you with a negotiation game where you can use the power of your mind and memory!
When you hit the Negotiate button for the first time, you will see that you got approached by 5 locals. They clearly want something from you, and if you don't deliver, they won't let you pass. Unfortunately, their dialect is very complicated and despite your best efforts you fail to communicate.
You diffidently offer them some coins, but only two of five take them and go away. The other tree take them as well, but... they refuse to move away and remain standing firmly on the ground. Perhaps some supplies?
Success! They took the supplies and went away. You just managed to solve your first encounter through the negotiation!
In this new Negotiation Game, you have to figure out what the local inhabitants want from you and offer it to them. Count on both luck and skill!
Each of the five persons wants a resource from you. When you click one of the "Select Resource" buttons, you will see what you can offer to them:
First encounters will be very easy to solve. You can only choose one of two resources. The select buttons show how many coins/supplies you need to offer and how many you have. You can select your offer for each inhabitant separately.
Let's offer 3 of them coins and supplies to the other two:
And let's see what happens when you hit the "Negotiate" button (at this point one attempt will be withdrawn from your attempts pool):
Great! Two inhabitants accepted your offer and are willing to let you through! But still three of them clearly want something else.
As you can see, there is "Wrong Person" information shown on the banners that represent them. This means, that while they are not interested in what you offered them, at least one of their companions will accept it.
Since this is the first encounter, it is very easy to solve. You only choose from 2 possibilities, so if your first offer was rejected, simply pick the other resource now:
Then hit "Negotiate" again! Notice that this time an attempt will not be taken away, since this is still the same negotiation round. Within each negotiation round you have three turns to use.
Let's see what happens:
It looks like we succeeded! The encounter has been solved!
This is an example of a typical negotiation from the middle of difficulty I.

- Either they accept your offer,
- Or reject it hinting that one of the other people needs what you offered them,
- Or they reject it completely and this means that nobody wants it.
This is represented by text and color:
What exactly do these mean?
Correct Offer has been accepted. The same resource might, but doesn't necessarily have to, be still expected by one or more of the other persons.
Wrong Person This person does not need this resource. However, one or more of the remaining characters will accept it.
Incorrect No one needs this resource: none of the remaining inhabitants wants this resource. This means that it will be also greyed out when you begin the next turn. |
Outcome of each turn is saved each time you make an offer so you can review it when searching for the right combination. Keep in mind that the resources are taken upon offering them to the inhabitants and not when they accept your offer. So they take them away even if they don't want them! |
The Negotiation Game is balanced in the way that you get roughly the same amount of Expedition Points for fighting and for negotiating, but this can of course differ slightly depending on how many turns you need to figure out the right combination.
Speaking of turns: in some cases, if you lack skill or luck, 3 turns might not be enough to find the right combination. In this case you have two options:
- Either you give up and try again,
- Or you buy an additional turn with Diamonds.
If you decide to give up and try again, the set of resources the locals want and who wants what will be randomly changed.
And that's it!
We hope that you enjoy testing the new Negotiation Game! Please report any issues you find in the bugs mission thread and also please feel invited to tell us what you think about it!
Keep in mind that balancing is, as always, subject to change, so that we can release this new feature to the wide audience in the best shape possible!
Thank you for all your help!
Yours,
Forge of Empires Beta Team
