I think the game needs some changes at the fighting system and troop levels would be a good start.
Details
When a player unlock a new troop type it will start with level 1 and the players will be able to upgrade the troops to level 10.



To upgrade the troops, players will need to unlock a new building called Blacksmith. The new building will be available from The Future after researching a new technology.



Upgrading troops will need resources from the troop era, forge points and research points and it will take a certain amount of time. The town hall should provide research points and also one research point will be provided each hour. Troops from advanced eras will also need promethium and orichalcum for upgrade.



To be able to upgrade one troop, you should upgrade the equivalent troop from the previous era to level 10. Ex: To upgrade Surrogate Soilder (Arctic Future) you should upgrade Satellite Spotter(The Future) to level 10 before.
Balance
I think this update will open the path for new boosts for GBs: research points, time reduction to upgrade the troops even a passive skill which can unlock new levels or increase all troops levels for a certain amount of time after collection.

so if I want SAM fast unit at level 10 I must level all other fast units before that era to level 10 o_O

There is already an Iron Age building called "Blacksmith". A new name for the "upgrading troops building" at Future Era is needed, maybe "Military Academy" or "North Point"? (West is already taken)
Size of this new building? (Not a 2x2).

Define "Research Points", a new resource to be accumulated, starting from Future Era?
Where to see how many "Research Points" the players have? Another counter added to the screen? At the Inventory?

A player has a barrack with (4) slots unlocked to produce up to four (4) attached Troops. Also have an Alcatraz with hundreds of unattached troops of that type. What is exactly upgraded from level 1 to level 10?
  • Individual Troops? The four (4) Attached Troops? The 100's Unattached Troops?
    • Pay FPs, Research Points, Goods, and even promethium and orichalcum for upgrade for each single troop ?
    • Pay Mars Ore or Asteroid Ice for upgrading SAM/SAAB troops? or just promethium and orichalcum ?
    • If troop die in battle, then next troop to replace it will have again to be upgraded from level 1 to 10?
  • Individual Barrack slot? Or complete barrack ?
    • Each slot to be upgraded separately, or the complete barrack will have to be upgraded?
  • Unattached Troops?
    • Units produced by Alcatraz will be at the level of the Barrack/slot?
  • If the Player has more than one barrack of a unit type/era? Each barrack to be upgraded separately? or paying the upgrade to a new level will apply to all barracks of that type/era?

  • In some eras one or two of the unit types are the ones to have, for example at SAAB the Short Ranged. If the player want to upgrade it... it means that have to build/upgrade all the Short Ranged troops from Future Era up to SAAB Era, even if he/she never built those barracks before?
  • If the idea is implemented, and a Player is already at an era after Future Era... to upgrade troops then will have to build and level up barracks for all the troops since Future Era?
  • Ocean Era has two different units of each type... The player would have to upgrade the two Artillery Units of OF if interested to upgrade the Artillery units of eras after OF?
5. How will change the stats of a Level 1 Troop up to a Level 10 Troop of an era? How will compare them to the stats of a troop of the eras above it?
  • Will a Troop Level 5 will have the same stats of a Troop Level 1 of the next era?
  • Will a Troop Level 10 will match the Troop Level 1 of two eras above?
  • No balance issues introduced by this???

Maybe this will solve the problem of Colonial vs SAAB troops at PvP. ...
Correction: No, it requires a Future Era building built at the city, Nevermind, Colonial players are still doomed at PvP.
 
Issues vs the Do Not Suggest List (DNSL) :
  • Better units to fight against other units (i.e. no monster/super units that can sweep all others). New units’ ideas must be balanced with existing ones. (Are Units Level 10 = "Super Units"?)
  • Extreme changes (Is this an extreme change?)
 
Yes. Otherwise SAM players will not upgrade the troops they don't use.

Yes, but...
1. At SAM Era the fast unit "Sentinel" is the strongest one, If change is implemented the SAM players would only work to upgrade that one.
2. Then after reaching SAAB era they will see that the Fast units are not the best one, the Short Range ones are the excellent choice. Then the player, now at SAAB will have to go back to build Future Era Short Range Barracks, upgrade them to level ten, repeat at all eras until reaching SAAB Era Short Range Barracks to be able to start upgrading them. All past effort upgrading Fast units for the Sentinels counts for nothing now to upgrade the Short Range SAAB units.

At one Research Point per hour from Town Hall, plus the time required to finish each level upgrade...
  • How long it will take to raise one unit type, of one era, from Level 1 to Level 10?
  • How long it will take to raise one unit type from Future Era (10 levels) up to SAM Era (10 levels)?
  • How long it would take to start over now with Short Range units up to SAAB era?
To speed up... Can Research Points be purchased (like FPs) using coins and/or diamonds?

How to identify at the Army Management screen which level has each unit available for selection?
  • Any graphical symbol to reflect the unit level?
  • Level is listed at the info tip with the attack/defense stats of the unit?
 
If a level 2 is unlocked for a specific unit type, (example: Surrogate Soldier (Arctic Future) .. what will happen with the unattached Surrogate Soldiers from Alcatraz?
  • All unattached Surrogate Soldiers produced at Alcatraz will be upgraded to level 2. New Surrogate Soldiers produced by Alcatraz will be level 2.
  • All unattached Surrogate Soldiers produced before the upgrade at Alcatraz remain at Level 1. Only new Surrogate Soldiers produced by Alcatraz, after the upgrade, will be level 2.

a level 10 surrogate barrack has level 10 surrogates
if build a 2nd barrack you should also upgrade it or else those units will be at level 1
 
All this costly and slow process to upgrade just the 4 attached units to a barrack?
Alcatraz unattached troops due to the fact that a Level 5 or Level 10 barrack exits at the city will be only level 1?

Too high costs for just a little benefit.

for example: in the last province of earch era there will always be level 10 opponents ?
so players should level their units up to 10 before advancing to next continent (unless they have enough other boost)

1. It will be a special building like the friends tavern.

2. Another counter and also in inventory from rewards.

3&4. You upgrade a troop type not each individual troop, so when you get troops from acatraz they ll be the same level as the troops from the barracks. Also you won t loose the progress if you delete the barrack.

5. I think the upgrade should give a boost but maybe only lvl 10 troops should be as strong as the previous era troops.

The amount of special goods, time, research points and fps will increase for higher era units.
Yes, I think 10 of each goods will be a good start and the amount will increase as the level of the troop is higher.

It depends on the era. Maybe a few hours for the iron age to few weeks for SAAB

It will not be the case. When you upgrade a troop type, of the troops will be upgraded.

i don t think the proposal is either an extreme change or a new type of super units

One of the reasons this building will be unlocked with The Future is it shouldn t change GE and continent map fights.In advanced eras the fights are more and more difficult, even with multiple waves.
