Get Doubloons from quests. Use them to spin the wheel and get fantastic prizes - including brand new buildings!

Dear Kings and Queens,

Summer is here, and this year we visit the Forge Island to take part in the annual Summer festival! As soon as you get there, you will hear from the local governor, who will offer you to take a spin on the mysterious 'Wheel of Fortune' and see what rewards she has in store for you!

There are awesome prizes to be won, so make sure to board the ship! If you didn't have a chance to participate in our previous events, now you have an opportunity to compete with your neighbors to claim some of those old event items, as well as brand new Summer items.

The event starts today, so you will soon be able to jump right into it!

To spin the wheel you need Doubloons, which both the Governor, as well as the local pirate Jane will be happy to help you with... in exchange for completing tasks, of course.
You can go through the first 30 quests immediately. Once you've completed them, you will be getting one quest per day, for the remainder of the event. You will probably have a few of them stacked when you get to them, as they start stacking up starting on day one.

To board the Wheel of Fortune, click the bar in the top left corner of your screen:

You will now see the wheel, as well as the buttons to spin or refresh it. Remember that your neighborhood shares the wheel - when you refresh it, it's refreshed for everyone (an additional refresh will take place during a neighborhood merge). When you grab a prize, it is gone for everyone.
The most recent wins are displayed at the bottom of the window, so that you can keep an eye on who's winning which prize.

Spinning the wheel
In order to spin the wheel, you first need to earn Doubloons. As mentioned, you can get them by completing Summer quests. You can also use Diamonds if you just can't resist waiting for the next spin!
One spin costs one ticket, and results in one prize. Alternatively, you can "refresh and spin" to call up a whole new set of prizes for your neighborhood. No matter what you choose, you will always win a prize!

Prizes
The prizes displayed in the wheel are available for every player in your neighborhood to claim. The prizes are random but, don't worry, every wheel has something special that can be won.

The most special prizes can be won by just one lucky spinner - these are surrounded by a golden circle. Somewhat less valuable, but also a very nice prize is one of our Summer selection kits - they are available on every wheel and can be obtained twice. The most common type of a reward can be obtained by up to four players (you can see how many of each prize is left in the circle surrounding the image of the prize).
If, for example, you win one of a specific prize where four are available, it is removed from the wheel and only three of them will remain for your neighbors to win. This goes on until all the prizes in the wheel run out, at which point the wheel is automatically refreshed with a new set of prizes.

As you probably noticed, there is also an incomplete map displayed next to the wheel. Each spin will produce up to three map pieces for you. If you collect all the pieces, you will get an additional special reward displayed below the map. The map will be then reset and you will be able to start the treasure hunt again :).

In addition to some older event items, we of course also have brand new rewards: special summer avatars and, most importantly, four new Caribbean-themed buildings.

First, the most important one:

The Ship
7x3
The Ship is a special upgradable building. Once you have gotten it on the level 1 (expect it in one of the first quests), you will then have a chance to upgrade it up to five times. After reaching level 6, you will be able to upgrade it one more time, but at this point you will need to make a choice between three options: The Royal Ship, The Trader Ship and The Pirate Ship. Each of them provides different output, so it is up to you to make the choice!

Naturally, in order to upgrade The Ship, you will need to use The Ship Upgrade Kits. In order to get them, advance through the questline and spin the wheel!

Also, take a look at the three other special buildings that you can also get during the event:

summer18_hammock.png

Hammock
2x2 - Decoration, generates happiness
summer18_sunkentreasure.png

Sunken Treasure
2x3 - Production building (supplies, coins, medals, goods, Forge Points)
summer18_strandedboat.png

Stranded Boat
4x2 - Residential, provides medals if motivated

We hope you enjoy spinning the wheel and winning the prizes. You have until 25th of July to do so.
If you'd like to discuss the event, please visit our discussion thread.

Thank you for playing Forge of Empires and... enjoy the summer! :)

Sincerely,
The Forge of Empires Team

PS The event will be playable on mobile after the next version of the app is released.

Please keep in mind that as Forge of Empires is a game under constant development - the way certain parts of the game work is subject to change. This is particularly important in the Beta phase, where functionality and balancing can still undergo significant adjustments based on feedback and the effects on the gameplay.

Hi all,

I wanted to thank everyone for all the feedback on the event so far!
The most important points we summarized is that some of you are not quite satisfied with the current distribution of rewards on the wheel as well as with the attainability of the fully upgraded Ship.
We just wanted to let you know that we’ve heard you, and we have discussed it and decided to look into details of the event’s balancing in the next few days.
I will update everyone on this soon,

Thanks again,
Z.D.

Dear Kings and Queens,

Since the beginning of the event we have received a great amount of valuable feedback. So, first of all, a big thank you for all your comments! Our main thought remains the same for quite some time now: events ought to be positive and rewarding gameplay experiences that all players can enjoy.

To make sure that we are meeting this requirement, we have introduced significant changes to the Summer Event that are now available in the game. We will explain them by going one by one through the concerns that we have seen most commonly:

Concerns over the attainability of the fully upgraded ship
We expect active players to be able to achieve a full ship. It is now easier thanks to the following changes:
  • An additional Ship Upgrade Kit was added to the quest rewards,
  • Increased the average progression that you make per spin of the wheel (by giving out a bit more map pieces),
  • Increased the amount of Doubloons given out in quests by additional 22 Doubloons.

Concerns over the prizes on the wheel not being as good as expected
We do recognize that some of the rewards may have felt that way. Especially getting coins or supplies a few times in a row was probably somewhat demotivating. We are tackling this issue with the following changes:
  • There will be a gold reward on every wheel.
  • There will be two or three silver rewards on every wheel.
  • The frequency of coins and supplies was drastically reduced.
  • Some better green rewards are now silver (special units, old summer buildings, The Hammock, etc.).
  • Premium buildings and other good, but not awesome rewards (20 Forge Points, Mass Self Aid Kit etc.) are no longer gold ones. As such, actually valuable gold rewards are now more likely to appear.
  • Selection Kits are now gold rewards and not silver ones, as they allow you a choice of valuable rewards.
  • The Ship Lv. 1 building is now available in all the three Selection Kits, making attaining multiple Ships easier.
  • Other, less significant changes (for example different boosts).

Concerns over the different types of the Ship being very similar
It appears that most of you like the Ship in general, but you would be interested in seeing more differences when making the final upgrade choice. We made it more meanigful:
  • Each type of the Ship provides a different boost now:
    • Pirate Ship: 8% attack boost,
    • Royal Ship: 10% coin boost,
    • Trader Ship: 10% supply boost.
  • The Royal Ship generates an additional Forge Point.

Other changes and additional actions

  • Some of you have expressed an interest in seeing some of the prior summer buildings available on the wheel (especially ones from the last year). We have decided against it for two reasons. Firstly, those are available in a different way (for example in Daily Challenges). Secondly, this particular event is themed differently, so we don't want to deviate from the theme and make it again about the same rewards.
  • Additionally, we have made some other, less significant adjustments:
    • The Sunken Treasure was balanced rather incorrectly, so we reduced the number of medals it generates to a more reasonable level.
    • There are less medals to be obtained from the Royal Selection Kit.
    • There are no more rewards that would show up as both green and silver, causing confusion.
Now, as the event is balanced in a more generous way than before, we have realized that those of you who progressed fast through the questline could potentially "lose" some Doubloons by not getting the same number of them as players who will complete the quests that had their rewards adjusted. Therefore:
  • We retroactively added the difference to your accounts.
  • Around 25% of the Doubloons that you have spent (be it purchased for Diamonds, or from quests) were re-added to your accounts.
  • ...and we also threw in additional 3 Doubloons for everybody as a gift.

Closing

Again - thank you so much for all the comments you have left in the feedback thread. Please keep them coming and help us make Forge of Empires even more fun game to play! :)

Yours,
The Forge of Empires Beta Team - Team Beta
