What about we develop time traveling technology. We are then tasked with going back in time to various ancient empires to 'repair the timelines'.
Seeing classic ages/civilizations that we did not have before could be fun and we'll visit them 'from the future's perspective'.

- The ages can continue, without having to 'invent' a new futuristic age every time. They don't even necessarily need to be in chronological order because we'd be 'travelling around time' every time a new age arrives.
