How long does the text "Under siege by xxx ?

Yesterday we sieged and attack a sector ..but defending armies defeated us ;)
Today, looking at this sector we notice that its still with the green cross-swords icon (being still sieged by us).
My doubt is: how long this sector will appear sieged by us?

If I understand you right: The siege will last until the hex owner (or a third party from an adjacent hex) completely wipes out your siege army (which is not the same army you used to attack with). So you can continue to fight the defending armies if you feel like it.
