Dear Explorers!

Guild Expeditions are by now a well-established and popular feature of Forge of Empires. As we would like to make sure that you enjoy the Expeditions as much as possible, we collected your feedback, reviewed ideas, and thought of possible improvements.
Today, we proudly present a huge set of changes! :)

New rewards
We have implemented new rewards that will join or replace already existing ones in most of the encounters. These changes are substantial and span across all ages and difficulties.

New buildings
Most event (or otherwise rare) buildings have been replaced by new ones, designed specifically for Guild Expeditions.

New buildings mostly mimic behavior of the ones that were used previously. For example Ritual Flame has the functionality of a Watchfire (with the value of 8% though) and Fountain of Youth works pretty much like a Wishing Well.
We hope you will like them! :)

New usable items
In addition to new buildings, we have also come up with new usable items that will introduce even more variety to rewards you can get for solving encounters.
  • Motivation Kit - motivates a building of your choice in your city.
  • Mass Motivation Kit - motivates all buildings in your city at once.
  • Expedition attempts - will let you continue the current Expedition.

Balancing changes

Battles

The strength of enemy armies in some encounters was adjusted in order to make them easier/harder (mostly easier though) to defeat, according to your feedback and our data. These changes are not drastic and were done mostly for ages from Colonial upwards. Overall, they should improve your general battling experience :).

Rewards
The introduction of the new rewards listed above means that they will replace some of the existing ones. Among the changes are:
  • All event, or otherwise rare buildings were replaced by new, Expedition buildings with similar functionality (except for the Victory Tower).
  • Especially the encounters where only coins and supplies were available, will now see a variety improvement, due to addition of Expedition attempts and new usable items.
  • All Forge Points packages were replaced with 'direct' Forge Points that are added to the Forge Points bar.
  • The Temple of Relics blueprints were removed from the final encounter of the 3rd difficulty.
  • Some of the encounters (especially the 'large' ones) will get even more variety as multiple (3-5) sets of rewards (switching every week) are now possible.
Relics
Contents of relics will also see some adjustments:
  • Buildings were replaced with the Expeditions ones.
  • Oasis was removed from the rare relic. Instead, Tribal Square was added to the uncommon relic.
  • Overall, the chances for goods and Forge Points was slightly reduced in favor of new items, Expedition attempts and buildings.

4th difficulty

If you feel ambitious, we have a new, extremely difficult extension to the Guild Expedition for you...
Very hard, very demanding, very challenging and very rewarding... Please welcome the 4th difficulty!

4th difficulty is an optional add-on for the most determined, powerful (and resourceful) guilds that feel like they want do even more than just completing the usual 100% every week. As the new difficulty is meant to be a choice and not a necessity, completing difficulty 3 will still mean reaching 100% progress (although guilds and players that are powering through the 4th difficulty will be indicated on the list).

If you decide to give 4th difficulty a shot, prepare for defeating two waves of enemies with significant bonuses to their statistics in all encounters. Of course negotiation is also possible - it is costly and some encounters may require medals and promethium (depending on your age).

Rewards for solving encounters will be accordingly better. There will be no coins or supplies. Small encounters will give you Diamonds, goods, Expedition attempts and usable items. Large encounters will reward you mostly with buildings, Diamonds and usable items.
What's more, there will normally be only two possible rewards, so the chance is 50/50. Therefore the chance of getting a really good reward is much higher.

Please remember that the 4th difficulty is meant to be extremely hard and demanding, so if you're more of a casual player, this feature might not be for you. We still encourage you to give it a try though! :)

Please note that while in Beta, the changes are only available in the desktop (browser) version of the game. If you access Expeditions via mobile, you will be using the old version with the old balancing.

Please let us know what you think! We will be happy to read your opinions in the feedback thread and see if we can improve the Expeditions further basing on your remarks! :)

Yours,
Forge of Empires Beta Team
