So here is tutorial. This Guide was made much before now but it still works 
Few thing you need to do before you start designing your own signature:
1. Downlod Gimp (http://www.gimp.org/) and install it. It's free and no ads. Not to worry. I'm using it though.
2. Look for some nice fonts in the net for your siggy. As for me I found this one http://www.ufonts.com/ (http://www.ufonts.com/), as usual free sites just download and install.
3. You need to find a render images for your signature. Up to you what you like to choose from. Render images usually contain only specific images or character that have transparent background (Alpha Background). For eg, see image as below.

Image above is a render image that only consist of the character with transparent background so it will fit into any where you put.
Just look around here http://planetrenders.net/ (http://planetrenders.net/) and choose what you like to be your siggy.
So I choose this :

Well, I'm not familiar with the program yet, so i do a resize from it original size which is Original Size 810 x 417 (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/18/shanarender2q.png/) and i resize it using Gimp so that it become small like the above.
How to do the resize ?
Right click > Edit w GIMP
Then click Image > Scale Image > Key in the small size especially the height put it to smaller. In this case 125.
Here start:
1. Open Gimp
2. Click File > New > Key in 500 x 100 which is the usual size of a siggy depend on what the forum usually.
3. Now, look back the image that you resize and make a copy of it and paste into the New file that you make. And paste it few time randomly by moving it manually using the Move Tool under the Toolbox. Then once you done, Click Layer > Anchor Layer. It should look something like this :

After you done the step above, below are the step you can actually play around on how you design the signature background. In this tutorial, I'll be using Gaussian Blur & Cubism
4. The click Filters > Blur > Gaussian Blur
5. The click Filters > Artistic > Cubism and the results would be like this :

6. Now, just copy and paste the image of the render that you resize into it, and move to the position you would like. And click Layer > Anchor. It would be something like this :

7. Finally choose your font text. On the Toolbox, click Text Tool and play around with the text tool right below of the Toolbox. Once done, click Layer > Merge Down. Final results :

*** You can always use Ctrl+Z, to undo if you don't like what you see. So that you need not need to create again and again.
