Update Cultural Settlements - Balancing Changes

Greetings Beta,

We want to thank you for the continuous and extensive feedback you have provided us regarding the Cultural Settlements. We've been closely following all of it and working on adjustments based on it. While we've already done some changes, and some more are to come, we are here to present a larger and more significant batch of changes that will come with tomorrow's update (which will take place a bit later during the day than usual). These changes aim to make the Viking Settlement generally faster, as well as to provide more flexibility and diversity in production options so that everyone can find production cycles suitable for them.

Firstly, we'd like to mention that with this update we'll be finishing all currently running Settlements.

This means that after the update, upon going to the Settlement you will be able to collect all rewards for it (everyone will obtain the main reward as well as all timed rewards). Since the changes are quite significant, and to avoid any side effects, we decided we'll complete the existing Settlements for everyone so a new fresh Settlement can be started afterward.

Among the changes, you will find the following things:
  • We have increased the starting Copper Coin (from 500 to 5000).
  • We have heavily increased the output of Copper Coin for all Residential and Diplomacy buildings.
  • To allow for a more diverse play-style, all Diplomacy buildings which require a road connection (Shrine, Market, Mead Hall), will now work similar to production buildings in the sense that you'll be able to choose between different production cycles, from 5 minutes to 1 day. ***

  • We have increased the costs for the Cultural Goods productions.
  • On the other hand, the costs for Cultural Goods productions will now only increase linearly (the longer productions will not cost more copper coin per goods).
  • We have lowered the costs for placing expansions with Cultural Goods (previous range was from 2 to 144 Cultural Goods, new range is from 1 to 110 Cultural Goods).
  • We have lowered the total Cultural Goods costs for unlocking all Advancements (from 1241 to 938 Cultural Goods)
  • Because of the general balancing changes which intentionally make completing the Settlement faster, we're also adjusting the Time Bonus thresholds. For the first Settlement the time thresholds for obtaining fragments of the Greater Runestone will now be 16 days, 19 days, and 22 days (they were previously 21, 25, and 29 days respectively). Any consecutive settlements (beyond the first one) will still be getting slightly shorter with each completed one.

We hope these changes will make the Vikings more entertaining and dynamic for you. As usual we're looking forward to your feedback! We have started a new thread for this, since we'll have a lot of changes since the initial one was created.

We would like to also mention that - as Forge of Empires is a game under constant development - the way certain parts of the game work is subject to change. This is particularly important in the Beta phase, where functionality and balancing can still undergo significant adjustments based on feedback and the effects on the gameplay.

*** P.S. While the production option change for these Diplomacy buildings (Shrine, Market, Mead Hall) is done for both browser and mobile, it will only work correctly on mobile as of the 1.141 app version. Until that time, the behavior will be as following:

  • Any "idle" Diplomacy building will automatically start a 5 minute production when you visit the Settlement on mobile.
  • On collecting a Diplomacy building, a new 5 minute production will automatically be started.
  • Any currently running production set from browser will be respected on mobile (for example if you start a 1 day production on browser, it remains as 1 day and can be collected on mobile - though the collection would then automatically start a new 5 minute production).
  • Likewise, the 5 minute productions from mobile will be visible, collectable, and cancel-able, on browser.
We would like to apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our mobile players. We do hope to have the 1.141 app version available for you in the near future though.
