If a player makes a bid with under 30 seconds to go, the timer resets to 30 seconds. If the same player then increases their bid without any bids made by anyone else, the timer does not reset to 30 seconds, but continues to count down. That player can continue to do this until the timer reaches 0.
If another person attempts to put in a bid that is only slightly higher than the existing bid, the original bidder can anticipate that and put in a higher bid. The other person will get a message that their bid must be higher than the current bid. Clearing the message and entering another bid takes time during which the original bidder can repeat with yet another higher bid while the timer continues to tick down.
